Pay8 signs MOU with CEZAReading Time: 2 minutes

Pay8, a Fintech company, represented by its chairman Kirk Arambulo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Secretary Raul Lambino of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA).

Pay8, which specializes in payment solutions, is providing the CEZA Zone with last mile connectivity using their proprietary platform to enable online payments in remote areas.

The project is in line with the programs of the Duterte administration for financial inclusion, giving the 80% of the unbanked population in the Philippines access to the banking network. This will include residents, locators, small businessmen in the Sari Sari stores, fishing operators, and transportation operators.

Pay8 serves as a payment gateway by utilizing a portable point of sale (POS) system, bringing mass transactions online for often isolated communities. It also dovetails with the ecotourism push, allowing hotels and resorts in CEZA to accept and receive tourist payments under bancnet and Visa/MC.

This connectivity will also take advantage of the proximity of the new airport in CEZA to major North Asian cities being a short 45 minute flight from most of the coastal cities of China and Taiwan, and less than two hours from Japan and Korea.

“We are excited to be part of the pivot of CEZA towards being the Fintech leader in Asia. We look forward to working hand in hand with them to provide an effective platform for financial inclusion. This Filipino developed platform is scalable and can be a showcase for other emerging markets in Asia and is aimed at helping CEZA constituents compete in the digital world”, said HatchAsia President, Kirk Arambulo.

Pay8 is a majority owned subsidiary company of HatchAsia Inc., which has filed for its listing by introduction with the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).

Bethard granted gaming license in SwedenReading Time: 1 minute

Bethard continues to expand its licensed operations in Europe. Today, the Swedish Gaming Authority announced that Bethard, with its associated white labels, has been granted a Swedish license to operate as from 1st January, 2019. Bethard has thus, in 2018, secured three crucial licences in its strategic markets: The UK, Denmark and Sweden. More licences are to be expected during 2019.

”We are of course very pleased with having our Swedish license and to have received a green light for continuing growing in the Swedish market. Today, I am celebrating together with our white label clients, who now will get the same opportunity as us to carry out operations in Sweden” says Erik Skarp, founder and CEO of Bethard Group. “Sweden is, for many reasons, a very dear market to us and I am personally looking forward to show what we can do in terms of responsible gaming on our home market. Our goal is to become Europe’s leading betting company, not only in terms of innovation but also in terms of having the courage to take the right decisions in order to be a truly responsible gaming company”.

Bethard.com is based in Malta and Sweden. The company is currently licensed in Malta, Denmark, the UK and now Sweden. Work on a license application for a license in Ireland as well as a state license in Schleswig-Holstein in Germany has been initiated. The company is actively seeking licenses in several other markets and expects to have a licensed presence in most key European markets already by 2020.

Bethard has been granted a Swedish license for the maximum period granted, which is five years. The license includes betting and online casino games.

Wyoming Attorney General terms ‘skill games’ illegal

Wyoming Attorney General terms ‘skill games’ illegalReading Time: 1 minute

Peter Michael, the Attorney General of Wyoming, has stated that the so-called “skill games” prevalent in the state are illegal gambling devices.

“At the request of law enforcement officials, I was asked to evaluate whether the electronic games manufactured by Banilla Games are illegal under Wyoming law,” Michael said in a statement Tuesday. “These machines are illegal gambling devices under Wyoming law. Those who play them are engaged in gambling, which is a crime in Wyoming, and those who provide the games are engaged in professional gambling, which is also a crime in Wyoming.”

Michael’s legal opinion does not cover “historic horse racing” terminals at pari-mutuel off-track betting locations. Those terminals are legally valid in Wyoming.

Similarly, it does not concern tribal gaming operations on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

“Because gambling in Wyoming is a crime, not a civil violation, local law enforcement officials and prosecutors will need to determine the timing of the appropriate next steps if their communities have these machines,” Michael said.
